  3. Hi all, I'm an outdated Classic ASP web developer finally making the switch to PHP and I'm still fairly new to it. Anyway, I need to develop a new website for small private school with about 100 students. The site will be mainly used for marketing purposes, posting news, events, etc. We will need to have a login for teachers so they can post homework, photos, and some downloadable files. We do not need to tie it into our school's database for things like updating and posting student grades. It will be a fairly light application I know I want to use PHP and mySQL and I was thinking about using something like Drupal, Joomla, etc, but I haven't used a CMS before. I've also looked online at quite a few sites and I haven't seen any school related website templates that might work with a CMS. Can someone recommend which CMS might be best for creating a small school website? Also, if anyone knows of any school website templates, please let me know. Thanks!

  5. Hi, I am trying to run a script using the php exec command. It is called 'Drush'. You might be familiar with it. It's a way to perform certain tasks on a Drupal site using the command line (bypassing Apache). Anyway, when executing my drush command in the terminal manually it works just fine. But when executing it using exec() it doesn't seem to be able to find Drush. I set all the permission of the directory and all its contents to 777 and it is still not working. I am also calling drush using the entire path and not just drush as specified in .bash-profile. Example: /Applications/drush/drush --root="/Applications/MAMP/htdocs" --uri="client2.drupal.local" usu "nodes" Where usu is a custom command and nodes is an argument. Again.., this works just fine when run manually in the terminal. Just not when executed using exec(). I tried executing 'ls' and that does work... Does anybody have any idea what could be the problem here? Thanks! Roderick
  6. Hi all, Just need some help in amending some Drupal/PHP script. I would like to find out how I can block a specific domain from registering as a member of a site. I believe this would be done on the register.php page where the user fills out the form. Upon submitting I would like the form to check if the domain is listed as a domain to be blocked. Any help would be much appreciated Adam
  7. I have been trying to research the idea of providing hosting for my web design clients. I was toying with the idea of getting an Amazon EC2 instance or a Linode VPS and, using drupal as the CMS, host multiple sites on one. I started thinking about this when a few friends of mine mentioned providing hosting to your clients could provide a regular suplemental income stream. I realize that I can do a multisite installation with Drupal, but I've also seen people advocating multiple drupal codebases. I'm still learning about the LAMP stack and it's resource requirements. I was hoping some of you that have more experience tuning LAMP would be able to point me in the right direction. I'm also looking for a tutorial on installing/maintaining multiple codebases on the same server. I haven't tried it yet so I'm just assuming that you use Apache Virtual Hosts. Any thoughts on the subject would be apreciated as I haven't figured out all the questions I need to ask yet thanks for all your help.
  8. I am new to Drupal and am attempting to build a custom module to connect to ftp, download a zip file and unzip the file on the server. The zip file contains two product csv files to update price lists on an ecommerce site. I have gotten it worked out to connect, and download the file. But no matter what code I try I cannot seem to get the files extracted. I can get the code working within a separate php file for testing but once I put it in the php and run from the cron tab it refuses to unzip. I am at a loss as to what to try next. I would really appreciate any pointers I could get! These are some of the things I have tried... the closest I have gotten is to have the first csv file within to create and start but it never finishes and the second file never starts. After changing the code so many times I couldn't even begin to tell you what I had when it was able to get that far. $server_file = 'ItemExport.zip'; $shell = "unzip $server_file"; $shell = escapeshellcmd($shell); exec($shell); $zip = new ZipArchive(); if ($zip->open('ItemExport.zip') === TRUE) { for($i = 0; $i < ($zip->numFiles); $i++) { $filename = $zip->getNameIndex($i); $zip->extractTo('.', array(trim($filename))); } $zip->close(); } else { echo 'failed'; } $zip = zip_open("ItemExport.zip"); if ($zip) { while ($zip_entry = zip_read($zip)) { $fp = fopen(zip_entry_name($zip_entry), "w"); if (zip_entry_open($zip, $zip_entry, "r")) { $buf = zip_entry_read($zip_entry, zip_entry_filesize($zip_entry)); fwrite($fp,"$buf"); zip_entry_close($zip_entry); fclose($fp); } } zip_close($zip); } $zip_entry = 'ItemExport.zip'; $file_name = array('StandardExport.csv', 'AmazonExport.csv'); //get the file's size $fileSize = zip_entry_filesize($zip_entry); for($x = 0; $x<2;$x++) { //open the target file $outFile = fopen($file_name[$x],"wb"); while ($fileSize>0) { //read/write only up to 10kb per step $readSize = min($fileSize,10240); //decrease the size of the remaining data to read $fileSize -= $readSize; //get the data $content = zip_entry_read($zip_entry, $readSize); //write the data (if any) if ($content !== false) fwrite($outFile,$content); } fclose($outFile); }
