[SOLVED] Login Problem - script works on one of my clients but not the other...

Newbie here.

Can anybody tell me if there is another login script that I can try instead of the following?  I am able to connect when I use:

$link = mysql_connect('localhost', 'root', 'mypassword'); if (!$link) {

  die('Could not connect: ' . mysql_error()); } echo 'Connected successfully'; mysql_close($link); ?>

 

However - I can't connect with the following:

$username = "myusername";

$password = "mypassword";

$hostname = "localhost";

 

$dbhandle = mysql_connect($hostname, $username, $password)

  or die("Unable to connect to MySQL");

 

$selected = mysql_select_db("mydatabasename",$dbhandle)

  or die("Could not select mydatabasename");
