cwynnd Posted September 26, 2003 Share Posted September 26, 2003 RH 9 mysql-standard-4.0.15-pc-linux-i686.tar.gz groupadd mysql useradd -g mysql mysql unzipped mysql-standard-4.0.15.pc-linux-i686.tar.gz in /usr/local/mysql directory /usr/local/mysql/scripts/mysql-(install_db chow -R root chown -R mysql data chgrp -R mysql these are all the steps outlined for installing as I understand I should be able to execute mysql as follows [root@localhost bin]# ./safe_mysqld user=mysql & [1] 2322 [root@localhost bin]# Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /var/lib/mysql 030926 16:24:30 mysqld ended [1]+ Done ./safe_mysqld user=mysql it seems to run and then automaticly end ? then there is the method to start the server [root@localhost support-files]# ./mysql.server start Can\'t execute ./bin/mysqld_safe from dir /var/lib I\'ve tried installing from a rpm with no luck so I turned to trying to install and run from the binary, besides the binary is a newer versiton that what I\'ve found in the rpm format. anyone thank you Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/1070-mysql-server-loads-then-automaticly-ends/ Share on other sites More sharing options...
effigy Posted September 27, 2003 Share Posted September 27, 2003 you may need to add a datadir switch to the startup command: --datadir=/usr/local/mysql/data also, check the hostname.err file under the data directory to gather more information on why this is happening...
