Document Directory based on url

Hey there,

  I was wondering i anyone could tell me how to do this.  I am trying to set up a dev enviroment for some on my friends which they would liek to be able to create dev sites without having to play around with virtual hosts. Say the project is called testProject and the dev is john then the url would be

 

    http://john.testProject.dev.example.com

 

and what i want to do is it to point to

 

/home/dev/john/testProject/

 

the testProject would be symlinked from john's profile.
