errors on shutdown

I am a linux noob, with a fresh install of hardy heron xubuntu.  When I shutdown I see a bunch of errors flash accross the screen.  One of which says something like: 'Make sure message bus daemon is running'

 

I am poking around /var/logs to try and spot some of these errors, but to no avail. :-(

 

Is there a specific shutdown message log or way to record it?  Thanks!
