discomatt
PHP is server side. It can't have any client-side effects. Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/114336-opening-the-windows-file-explorer/#findComment-587941 Share on other sites
lrt
i've seen some php code able to allow people to open files or upload file.. doesn't this require some sort of access to the local PC? wildteen88
PHP can not open/edit any files on the users PC, unless the user uploads the file first to the server. chronister
Generally to interface between web scripting and pc file system, you will have to have to use something like JAVA or ActiveX scripting. Either way, unsafe and insecure. If it is your own PC and you accomplish this feat make sure your system is LOCKED DOWN and firewalled and such.. Good luck Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/114336-opening-the-windows-file-explorer/#findComment-588127 Share on other sites
markjoe
When a page interacts with the file system to upload a file, it using using the HTML input tag of type "file". This interaction is rather restricted for obvious security reasons. As already stated, JAVA can run a client side app that can access the file system. If you are running page on localhost, I believe you can link to the file directly, "C:\path\file.txt". This will still open with iexplorer.exe, not explorer.exe. Although, the funcitonality of iexplorer and explorer is nearly identical (if not completly identical). (explorer.exe is the file browser you see anytime you double click a folder on Windows.)
