i am getting this error now and cannot work out the problem it says my error is on line 24 which is this line of code

mysql_query($sql) or die (mysql_error() mysql_errno());

the code which comes before this is as follows

$sql="CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `merc_users` (

		`****` int not null,
		`******` varchar (250) not null,
		`*****` varchar(250) not null,
		`******` varchar(250) not null,
		`*****` varchar(250) not null,
		`******` varchar (250) not null,
		`*******` varchar(250) not null,
		`****` varchar(250) not null,
		`****` varchar(250) not null,
		`******` varchar (250) not null,
		`********` varchar(250) not null,
		`******` varchar(250) not null
	)";
	mysql_query($sql) or die (mysql_error() mysql_errno()); (line 24)

with the dot, the request worked perfectly (add merc_users).

Without the dot :

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in test.php on line 56

The dot is the key, or you have another erreur :

  • you cannot connect to mysql
  • you dont have selected a databse before trying to create a new table
