Trouble with PHPForms software

Hi, I'm a newbie to any type of serverside software.  I just started trying to learn a little PHP this last week and I'm having a horrible time with it.  I have installed XAMPP on my Mac and I have purchased a PHP forms software called, oddly enough, PHPForms.  Here is my problem, I don't have any clue as to how to make it work.  I have the installation instructions, but they are difficult for me to understand.  I'm a designer, not a programmer, so herein lies the problem.  If anyone has any knowledge of this software and can help me I would greatly appreciate it.  Oh, also, do I have to install Apache, PHP and MySQL on the server that is hosting the website?  If so, what is the typical process there?  Thanks!
