mysql/php diffrent output if 1,2,etc. is selected

Hello.
I'm new to this php/mysql thing and I really need some help.

My problem is:

I have a site with images, videos, and animations and I want to give users the opunity to download these media to there phones.
For this I need different links (i.e. images=jpeg link, videos=3gp link etc.)
I was thinking about adding a new field to the media table in MySQL. So I could select 1,2,3 etc.
But I don't really know how to do so when 1 (jpeg) is chosen it shows the jpeg link.

I hope you guys understand what I mean.
