Turning a multi-image upload script into an UPDATE script.

Straight up - I need you to help me build this script. If you are just going to throw ideas at me without showing me how to implement them please don't bother. I been trying really hard for days to get this working. Plenty of people have had ideas and others have suggested other ideas but I really think that the only way I am going to learn something here is if someone can walk me through to a working script.

 

I have a script that uploads and resizes multiple images to a database. It adds link text to the database.

The problem is that I need to now write a script that does the same thing only this time it updates the database if a new image has been chosen or leaves the database field intack if a replacement image was not uploaded. It would also be idea to add some kind of tick box for deleting an existing image.
