Integrated cms with Worpress and phpBB - sinle registration/login

Hi there,

 

I working on a cms that will integrate Wodpress and phpBB into a bespoke core CMS. I want to either have each area of the site share the same user table or have a single registration/login application that will populate/interrogate the user tables of each section of the site.

 

I guess the singl etable approach would be ideal but I know that Wordpress uses the mD5 hash encryption and phpBB uses its own proprietory algorithm. Does anybody have any idea how to approach this problem?
