you can chance the date out of your database to any form you like with the function: DATE_FORMAT

 

in your case:

 

$result = mysql_query("SELECT date, DATE_FORMAT(date, '%d-%m-%Y ') as date FROM table" )

 

take a look at

You should be able to use

$result = mysql_query("SELECT DATE_FORMAT(date, '%d-%m-%Y ') as date FROM table" )

 

No need for the initial date column.
