[SOLVED] ERROR 2006 (HY000) at line 1: MySQL server has gone away

I'm getting this error when trying to import a sql file..

 

ERROR 2006 (HY000) at line 1: MySQL server has gone away

 

I opened my.cnf and changed the max allowed bytes to 16M even though my file is only about 1M and it still didn't work..

 

What could the problem be?

 

Here's the first few lines of my .sql

Did you restart the mysql server when you edited the .cnf?

 

Does the query end correctly?  with ) not ),

 

 

An alternative would be to segment your statement into halves until it takes it.
