Identify remote server.

I am http posting data from one server to another, and want to verify where this data is coming from to prevent random people posting data to my php file.

At the moment I am just using: (on the server receiving the data)

<?php
if ($_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR']=="81.12.34.55") {
//process data
} else {
//intruder alert
} ?>

(81.12.34.55 = IP of server sending the data)

I have read that $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'] can be spoofed. What other checks can I run to make sure that the data is coming from my server?

Thanks.
