You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'desc='were', catagory = 'Technology', user_id = '3' where title = 'tech1'' at line 2

is what I am getting when I try::

mysql_query("INSERT INTO {$table}

                                SET ext='$ext', title='$title',

                                    data='$data'")or die(mysql_error());

                $msg = 'Success: image uploaded';

                mysql_query("UPDATE {$table}

                                SET desc='$picdesc', catagory = '$catselect', user_id = 3 where title = '$title' ")or die(mysql_error());

I want to do it all in one insert but I get a error that is almost the same just different place

You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'desc='work', catagory = 'Technology', user_id = 3, ' at line 2

                mysql_query("INSERT INTO {$table}

                                SET ext='$ext', title='$title', desc='$picdesc', catagory = '$catselect', user_id = $user_id,  data='$data'")or die(mysql_error());

if I just do this query it works:::

mysql_query("INSERT INTO {$table}

                                SET ext='$ext', title='$title',

                                    data='$data'")or die(mysql_error());

the data is entered in to the table... what am I doing to mess up the query???

thanks in advance...
