[SOLVED] divs acting funky

Ive got a quick mockup for a class and i cant figure out whats wrong with my css

the problem is this:

 

the white background/purple border next to the h1 text is being caused by div.content

 

I need div.content to start at the top of the navbar so that div.content's side borders cover the navbar portion

 

the top border on the navbar is handled by #nav, I guess it could be arranged but im getting off topic.

 

I'm just not that good at css

 

help me out
