designerguy
Hi all, As a student I have an assignment to create a php, mysql, xml based community site. I need some ideas about communities. Is there any online sites? I know googling will give me some. However I am asking the forum because most of you are already in the market and therefore I would like to get answers from professionals. I will need to keep it as simple as possible since the deadlines are very tight. Thanks in advance
RichardRotterdam
online community is a bit of a broad term. It could be a simple forum or a website with lots of functionality like myspace, facebook or what ever. Just ask your teacher what functionality should be in it. dawsba
I'd go super simple, build a bullitin board / forum, not difficult work out your pages and then what data you collect and there you go, look into post , session and cookie variables
designerguy
Thanks a lot for your replies. My teacher is asking us to provide the features so I would like to have it as simple as I can. Is there any online tutorial in regards to writing a forum or bulletin board with php, mysql and XML?
RussellReal
xml would probably be used as rss from a forum which would probably be your most difficult procedure as for php mysql building a forum is as simple as storingpost details in a database.. and user information, the rest is outputting the data into html format with php sorry if I sound ramblish but its really simplistic you really don't need a tutorial you just should give some brain power and you'll be fine
.josh
If you want to make an online "community" as simple as possible, incorporating a database, just make a guestbook.
