Retreiving and reusing elements within an img tag.

I apologize for blindly wondering in here like this, but I’m just beginning to learn regex and my users are begging me for this feature now  :D

I would like to be able to perform a regex action on a string that will find all img tags and be able to modify or reuse the attributes contained within it. One of the things I may do is wrap the img tag in a link that’ll call a lightbox. For example, that might take this tag:

<img src="blah.jpg" width="400" height="400" alt="Something about this image" />

And modify it to:

<a href="blah.jpg" class="lightview" title="Something about this image"><img src="blah.jpg" width="400" height="400" alt="Something about this image" /></a>

That example is taking the value of the img src and alt tags and reusing them as the href and title within the anchor.

I’ve tried finding a tutorial for this specific situation to no avail – if anyone is aware of an applicable tutorial for this, feel free to point me in the right direction. If you’d like to walk me through building a regex to do this here, that’d be fantastic.

Thanks as always.
