Getting youtube, metacafe, etc.. Where to start? Help?

Whats up people, I know there is no simple solution. Nor am I looking for a complete answer per say on this.

 

However I have a need to snag videos from youtube, metacafe, etc.. and have them display on a site. Specific videos though. What I am trying to do is put together a master site for my client and two of his partners. They are video buffs and they want a portfolio site. They all store their videos mostly on youtube but have a couple else where.

 

Anyway what I want to do is take the URL from each video and just store that alone in a DB with some info for the URL and then have it pull up on the site that way. Problem is I have never tried such a thing before, don't know where to begin or what to look for to gauge an idea of how to begin. I'm looking for examples, or tutorials or something.

 

I know it is possible to pull it off cause you have sites like savevid.com that can do pretty much what I want to do and more, all I want to do is put the URL in and have it do its thing as far as getting the video to display on the site. Forget the downloading aspect.

 

So has anyone done anything like that before that can lead me on the right path?
