Select boxes in Crome are black

Guys,

 

I am using a background image for a select box which works in Firefox and IE (amazing huh?) but in Crome it shows a black background.

This is a known that has been raised with Google, but as far as I can tell, there has been no fix. Is this anything anyone else has come across and any ideas how to get round this other than a separate stylesheet for Crome without the background image...?
