interesting protesting in iran

i just read an article on msnbc.com that talked about the use of Twitter to get around the censors of the Iranian government...

the part that i found fascinating was the use of DDOS against Iran's website services as a form of protest. Essentially what happened was that a Twitter account posted a link for people to click on in order to use their computer to take a small share of the load in an organized DDOS attack with other computers doing the same.

They got a few hundred thousand page requests going to the web site every second.

oh nohs, sensoring the government's website? That's sure to cripple them.

well no it won't cripple them, but how would throwing tea into the boston harbor hurt britian?

The concept is constant annoyance. And to say that stopping/slowwing the governments online operations does nothing is naive. You know more than I do about the web, but i know enough to say that if our governments online operations were hit hard, they'd notice. And that's the concept: let them know you're there and that you're not going away anytime soon
