techiefreak05
Hi, I recnelty installed Apache and PHP on my computer, in hopes to host my webvsite on my own computer without having the host it anywhere but my own computer, I was wondering how to setup a DNS to get, for example, www.mydomain.com to point to my computer, also is it possible ot do that with a domain that isnt taken, but you have bought it yet? kinda like getting a "free" '.com' domain. oldmanice
No you cant do all those things you want :'( If you want it a domian name you will have to buy one you cant have it for free. Heres sites I can reccomend for you www.register.com or www.easily.co.uk but if you want something free you will have to use your ip address wich can found at http://whatismyip.com and use the coad that comes up. The good thing about registering a domian name is you can point your apache server to your ip address so your domian name will be your apache server.Hope this helps ??? youcantoo
The good thing about registering a domian name is you can point your apache server to your ip address so your domian name will be your apache server.
To run DNS you have to have to static ip numbers. If you have a dynamic ip that you will have to go through someplace likewww.dyndns.com/www.No-IP.comwww.zoneedit.comor if you know someone that run a DNS server perhaps you can ask them if they will setup a host file for you.
