Modifiyng mod_rewrite example for own purposes

I'm following the tutorial on mod_rewrite available here.

 

What I want to do is this:

 

weburl.com/plugin/quote -> index.php?view=plugin&plugin=quote

weburl.com/page/shutters -> index.php?view=page&page=shutters

 

So would I put this in the .htaccess file:

 

  Options +FollowSymLinks
  RewriteEngine On

  RewriteCond %{SCRIPT_FILENAME} !-d
  RewriteCond %{SCRIPT_FILENAME} !-f

  RewriteRule ^plugin/(a-z-A-Z)*$ ./index.php?view=plugin&plugin=$1
  RewriteRule ^page/(a-zA-Z)*$ ./index.php?view=page&page=$1

 

What do I put for file permissions for .htaccess? 0744?
