Installing PHP as CGI on Dreamhost for Drupal

Recommended Posts

Hi. I'm using this tutorial, http://wiki.dreamhost.com/index.php/Installing_PHP, to install PHP as a CGI on my Dreamhost server to use with Drupal 6.

The installation script seems to have run perfectly. But when I get to adding this to my .htaccess, I get an error.

Here's the bit I'm trying to add to my .htaccess:

Options +ExecCGI
AddHandler php-cgi .php
Action php-cgi /cgi-bin/php.cgi

<FilesMatch "^php5?\.(ini|cgi)$">
Order Deny,Allow
Deny from All
Allow from env=REDIRECT_STATUS
</FilesMatch>

And when I browse to the site, this is the error:

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@xxx.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

And here's my .htaccess file. I'm pretty sure that it's the default Drupal .htaccess, with the extra bit added:

#
# Apache/PHP/Drupal settings:
#

Options +ExecCGI
AddHandler php-cgi .php
Action php-cgi /cgi-bin/php.cgi

<FilesMatch "^php5?\.(ini|cgi)$">
Order Deny,Allow
Deny from All
Allow from env=REDIRECT_STATUS
</FilesMatch>

# Protect files and directories from prying eyes.
<FilesMatch "(\.(engine|inc|install|module|sh|.*sql|theme|tpl(\.php)?|xtmpl)|code-style\.pl|Entries.*|Repository|Root)$">
Order deny,allow
Deny from all
</FilesMatch>

So, how should I be adding those lines to my Drupal's .htaccess to get it working?

Thanks!
