I'm a PHP Tard! Please help! Patience required.... (directory application)

Hi there... I'm taking PHP as a college level course, and I am so lost! I have done all the reading for the current assignment and I don't understand how to piece everything together.

 

I am supposed to create a telephone directory application and collect the data "using string functions assemble  one record to be written to the file for each entry that is submitted."

 

From there, "the data will be written in a comma delimited line of information terminated by a new line character and will appended to the data file." "The file should contain al the stored items on separate lines."

 

There is more to the assignment, but at this point, I just need to get something started because I am getting very frustrated.

 

If you are willing to help, please let me know. I'm on yahoo under this same screen name, and plan on being online for a couple hours. So if you are patient and willing to help, I will forever be thankful... I'm really behind in this class because of a surgery so I have a lot of work to do in the next 3 weeks. thanks!!!

You should really learn the stuff, are there any tutors at the college for you? Is the teaching able/willing to work with you a bit more out of class? Also... I'm sure the book for the class has examples?

I have read the book and it doesn't make sense to me on how to piece the php to the form and such. I feel like a monkey doing a math problem. It is an online course so I am at the mercy of my instructor being on AIM. There are only 5 of us in the class and I think we are all having issues. The school only offers assistance in the English type courses as far as I've been able to find, and the book does not have this type of example, hence my frustration. Before now, the course has used assignments out of the book, and now they are pulling the project out of thin air.
