Really Wiered IE6 Bug - PHP???

If you visit this page you see that that there is a gap between the Download as PDF button and te top of the table below. This does not happen in Firefox.

 

The table below the button is generated with php nested loop and when you inspect the page with IE Developer Toolbar you see extra empty <> tags in the markup. In the IE Developer Toolbar, these empty tags appear within the table and not above it as they seem to in the page. If you think this is wiered, check the source in your browser and those tags don'e appear at all??!!???

 

Any IE Bug gurus out there got a clue what's going on???

sorry I'm about to go to sleep, however, I can tell you for a fact it is not an error in your PHP it is the way you send your html, try validating your html with w3c's online html validator, and it will show you plenty errors that your code has that shouldn't be there, more than likely fixing the errors will fix your problem.

Yeah, that would be the obvious thing to do. Which I did and the Validator did throw out 35 errors, saying there was loads of extranuous <tr> tagson lines 95,113,149,167,185...

 

But as far as I can tell they are perfectly valid. Dreamweaver CS4 also thinks so, so does firefox. Am I missing something blindingly obvious? This is the markup that the Validator returned with:

OK This is getting weirder. I'm still not certain this should be in the php section but I reckon it's got something to do with encoding or something (if anyone can suggest where this thread should go I would be greatful). The reason I put it here is that the markup is being generated by php loops.

 

So. If I view source in my browser - any browser. The markup looks perfectly valid (as above). But if I copy and paste the markup into notepad ++, I get a "?" on every one of the offending lines, just before the "invalid" <tr> tag ???  :wtf:

OK, I'm getting somewhere. It definitely IS something to do with encoding, but I am stiull not sure that it's not being caused by the output from the php script.

 

As I mentioned the markup looks perfectly valid, yet the validator flags it as invalid. If you view the source in any browser it is fine. Baffled.

 

So I copied and pasted the code from the browser code viewer and pasted it into notepad ++. When I do this and notepad ++ is set to encode as ANSII, a "?" is inserted at the place where the validator flags the error. However, If I paste the markup into Notepad when it is set to Encode as utf-8, the "?" does not appear.

 

Now if I save this version of the HTML, without the "?", View in Internet Explorer 6 and repeat the process - view source, sopy and paste into Notepad ++ the "?" reapears.

 

What do I need to do???  :facewall:
