jaapoost
About five yars ago I used osCommerce, but it's time to change... The table layout is just not got enough annymore. Now Im looking for the best webshop out there these days. I know there is magento. But don't know that many shops. What are your experiences. The thing I'm really looking for is a very clean frontend markup. (Quite) easy templating/skinning, and alot of freedom in layout. Maybe smarty templating or some kind too??? I want to be sure to make the right choice for the comming 5 years... I love to read about your experiences with shops nowadays. sysgenmedia
If you're looking for something of a hybrid site, part blog part e-commerce, Joomla has a bunch of extensions and plugins that can add some pretty basic e-commerce features to your site. VirtueMart would be one to look at. The sites are also very easy to layout with lots of attractive themes. If you're looking for a full blown e-commerce Magento may not be a bad choice. The biggest problem I've had, and trust me it's a big one, is the product importer it's slow and doesn't work well with a lot of product, but otherwise the features that Magento comes with is phenomenal. There's a pretty solid community dedicated to helping people out which I can tell you you'll be using a lot if you plan on doing any customization to the code. Styling things and layout wise it's actually not so bad. There are a few features in the admin to show you what parts of the code correlate to the different layout parts of the site which makes editing the front end much easier.
