Internal Server Error on uploading files.

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a php upload script that adds information into the database and uploads the file to a specific folder, Although I got this to work on my sever machine and behind a proxy (Just to double check).. the strange discovery I made when I asked a friend to upload a file was this error..

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator to inform of the time of the error occurred and of anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Server error log? Where is this kept..

Anyway these are the files of the uploader..

I have looked everywhere for a answer and can't seem to find one, I have checked the php.ini and changed the script timeout, maximum file upload too! I just don't understand why it works for me but no one else??

Please try it -> www.mymediaupload.com

You can either register or use this temp account (once logged in press upload and try it and please tell me if it works for you):

email: test@test.com

pass: testtest

Thanks :D

Can you try to upload a mp3? Thats what that uploader is mainly going to be used for (Sorry I forgot to state that xD)

EDIT: I see someone uploaded a mp3 thats 194kb, try to upload something like 5mb or so, I'm wondering if my php.ini is misconfigured?

; Argument passed to save_handler.  In the case of files, this is the path
; where data files are stored. Note: Windows users have to change this

;
; As of PHP 4.0.1, you can define the path as:
;
;     session.save_path = "N;/path"
;
; where N is an integer.  Instead of storing all the session files in
; /path, what this will do is use subdirectories N-levels deep, and

; or your OS have problems with lots of files in one directory, and is
; a more efficient layout for servers that handle lots of sessions.
;

;

Maybe this will help you determine where your logs are:

To determine where your IIS log files are stored, please perform the following steps on your server:

  1. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools

  2. Run Internet Information Services (IIS).

  3. Find your Web site under the tree on the left.

  4. Right-click on it and choose Properties.

  5. On the Web site tab, you will see an option near the bottom that says "Active Log Format." Click on the Properties button.

  6. At the bottom of the General Properties tab, you will see a box that contains the log file directory and the log file name. The full log path is comprised of the log file directory plus the first part of the log file name.

For example, if the dialog box displayed the following values:

    * Log file directory: C:\Windows\System32\LogFiles

    * Log file name: W3SVC1\exyymmdd.log

Then your full log path to put into SmarterStats would be:

C:\Windows\System32\LogFiles\W3SVC1

It has been many a year since I have used a windows server with IIS, but I did find some tips that should help you out in your configuration, regarding downloads.  This is part PHP and part IIS specific.  Remember to restart IIS after you add/change these params.  This assumes you want to support files as large as 20 megabytes.

For PHP

Edit PHP.INI:

post_max_size = 21M

upload_max_filesize = 20M

For IIS:

Edit MetaBase.xml

AspMaxRequestEntityAllowed

AspBufferingLimit

These both need to be set in bytes >= the file size you want to support.  You should be able to edit both files using notepad or wordpad.

Best of luck.

As stated, your host might not allow uploads over a certain size. The default is 2MB, if I'm not mistaken.

The settings I outlined are what control that behavior.  From what I saw with IIS6, it's more likely the defaults are 4mb, but then again, I avoid IIS.

I edited the php.ini as stated but metabase.xml how and where do I put those 2 lines??

Thanks for a very helpful post :).. I didn't find anything to do with the upload in the logs..

@waynewex

I am my own host lol, I'm not that expierienced with servers..

%SystemRoot%\System32\Inetsrv

Needless to say, you have to open them as Administrator to change them.
