[SOLVED] MySQL Process

Can someone explain how a MySQL server processes a query from start to finish.

 

SET character_set_client = Charset Sent By Client
SET character_set_results = Charset Sent By Server
SET character_set_connection = I don't understand this part.....

 

also.... once the query is sent to the server... how does the COLLATION come in at the column level........

 

so far im guessing it goes like this...

 

1. Client = Sends query to server

2. Server = convert from character_set_client to character_set_connection

3. Process(explain this for me.. like character set/collation wise how does it work....)

4. Server = convert from character_set_connection to character_set_results

5. Server = Sends results to client

 

Feel free to use as much detail as you want... i need to understand how MySQL deals with character sets/collations...
