[SOLVED] Making an idea work with an ajax script i modded.

ok so i have a password strength checker i modded in Ajax. i want to create something that tells them how many points they have positive and negative. so they know the difference between a strong password and a weak one.

 

i want it to eventually look like this:

i want it like the first script only i want it not to have symbols and if they input any symbol besides an underscore or dash it gives them negative points. if anyone could give me pointers on this would be much appreciated.
