Wanna help in swapping mechnaism

Hi all,

 

  I am working in Linux environment. I am not sure this is related to web development.

 

The question is,

    How can I switch the application when the alert comes?

    The switching should be done automatically.

 

  For an example,

 

      I am typing some document in the text editor at that time I got one alert in the browser. Normally the browser will blink in the window lists ( task bar).

 

      1) I want to get an alert in the text-editor itself

      2) Or else when the alert comes the switching happens automatically. It means now I browser should automatically switched over it.
