Developing a Social Networking application in ZEND versus Modifying ELGG

So we had a company meeting of the minds in which several ideas were brought forward. We are trying to develop a social network video application. We have several people that are pro ELGG and believe in not reinventing the wheel and to just modify it.  We also have several people that say that we need to write it from scratch so we have full control etc etc and that ELGG may have scalability issues and the likes. The time frame we have is 2 months.

 

I need a meaningful discussion. Please suggest.
