sheraz
Hi, i am creating a registration form, i am trying to apply some constraints on the fields, i.e 'name field should not be numeric' and all fields must be non empty. the problem is if user only enter spaces in the fields, the form is validated without any error. please tell me how i can get rid of this problem. :'( function create_account() { $uname=$_POST['uname']; $email=$_POST['email']; $pwd=$_POST['pwd']; $retyped_pwd=$_POST['retyped_pwd']; if(empty($uname) || empty($email) || empty($pwd) || empty($retyped_pwd)) { echo "<font color='red' size=2>Please fillup the required fields.."; } else if($uname=="" || $email="" || $pwd="" || $retyped_pwd=="") { echo "<font color='red' size=2>Please fillup the required fields.."; } else if($_POST['uname']==null || $_POST['email']==null || $_POST['pwd']==null || $_POST['retyped_pwd']==null) { echo "<font color='red' size=2>You typed Empty String"; } ?> Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/200424-validating-empty-spaces-in-textfields/ Share on other sites
Ken2k7
Wow. Please do not post code like that if you want help. And read the rules, particularly Forum DOs section. http://www.phpfreaks.com/page/rules-and-terms-of-service Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/200424-validating-empty-spaces-in-textfields/#findComment-1051764 Share on other sites
AndrewJ1313
You could try a str_replace function (http://php.net/manual/en/function.str-replace.php) to replace spaces within the fields you do not want left blank. Once all spaces in a field are replaced with null value, you can check to see if they still contain any submitted data: // create variable of field $field = $_POST['name']; // replace spaces ' ' with null value '' $field = str_replace(' ', '', $field); // check if field is null if($field == '') { ...return error... } else { ...continue... } Hope this helps... Kalland
You could use php's trim method. This method removes spaces before and after a string.
