How would I make a div's height 100%? This is my code:

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
<title>Untitled Document</title>
<style type="text/css">
<!--
body {
background-image: url(images/bg1.gif);
}
.main {
background-image: url(images/bg.gif);
background-repeat: repeat-y;
background-position: center;
height: 100%;
}
-->
</style></head>

<body>
<div class="main">
  <table border="0" width="100%" height="100%">
<tr>
<td height="21"> </td>
<td width="960px"><p>Howdie</p></td>
<td></td>
</tr>
</table>
</div>
</body>
</html>

But it's not working, any ideas?

It may also help to explain what you are trying to do - this is a question often asked, and usually refers to someone trying to get the footer to stick to the bottom of the page - in which case you would use a slightly different method than the one you are asking about.
