I am trying to connect to an eDirectory server using LDAP. With a computer on the same network, I am able to make the connection without the SSL (port 389), but not with SSL (port 636). On a different server, I'm not able to connect to the server at all. A ping command returns a result like "5 packets transmitted, 0 received."

Is it possible that I cannot even ping the server without the proper certificate? I have a certificate, but I am assuming that I have installed it incorrectly. I am using Apache on Fedora.

Are there any obvious steps that I am overlooking?

Thanks for any help.
