Jquery autocomplete question

I am using jquerys autocomplete, but I cant figure out how I would pass a value rather than the name that is displayed

 

for example  lets say I am doing an autocomplete for

 

Food:

 

pizza

hamburger

hot dog

 

would show then you start typing, but when you select pizza lets say, it also saves the id for that item and allows you to post that

 

something like a select option

 

<option value='23'>Pizza</option>

 

Can anyone help?
