So I am trying to get preg_match_all to work. I got help with the regex but I'm not sure the correct method to use in php.

The regex is backreferencing everything inside double quotes but is suppose to allow escaped double quotes.

"((?:[^"\\]|\\.)*)"

I'm hoping someone could explain what to use, 3 or 4 backslash.  They both seem to get same for this example but where would if differ or what are they really doing.

$value = '"test","\"Testing\""';

preg_match_all('/"((?:[^"\\\]|\\\.)*)"/', $value, $matches1);
preg_match_all('/"((?:[^"\\\\]|\\\\.)*)"/', $value, $matches2);

print "match 1\n";
print_r($matches1);

print "match 2\n";
print_r($matches2);

match 1
Array
(
    [0] => Array
        (
            [0] => "test"
            [1] => "\"Testing\""
        )

    [1] => Array
        (
            [0] => test
            [1] => \"Testing\"
        )

)
match 2
Array
(
    [0] => Array
        (
            [0] => "test"
            [1] => "\"Testing\""
        )

    [1] => Array
        (
            [0] => test
            [1] => \"Testing\"
        )

)

Thanks for the help
