Positioning to bottom of dynamic div

I'm trying to achieve this with my blog entries where the date will always be on the bottom.

but as you can see the date overlaps the image. Is there a way to push the date to the right of the image?  Also, there are blog entries without images where the date should be in the far left. I'm trying to achieve this without php.

 

Does anyone have any idea how to make this work?
