how to use the paypal API for recurring payments

I'm building a membership based website and we'll be using the paypal API to capture users payment information. I've used it before but only for shopping cart, not for a recurring payment deal.

 

So i'm not sure how to do it, I've looked over the documentation, but haven't really had much luck on it.

 

I would also like to allow the user to modify or cancel their subscription through web portal.

 

Has anyone done something like this, or have a tutorial i can check out?
