Os Commerce adaptation of weight atribute addon to be stock addon assistance

Hi Guys (and galls)

I'm really sorry to be a newby asking for help straight away but I'm sure someone out there will know much more than me with this subject.

I have an OsCommerce site which is reasonably modified by myself and a friend so far, although we aren't complete novices there has been a steep learning curve as we have added modifications to the site over time and learnt as we went along basically.

Currently we are stumped as to how we achieve our greatest issue so far and would rally appreciate someone offering any help or pointers as they feel happy to do.

The issue begins that I sell my products in weights, there is basically a  big bag of the product and customers choose an attribute I have set up for each product to select how much they want to buy. The product is listed as 0 for weight then the attributes are given a name (Ie 100g), price for that weight (Ie £1)and a weight for the shipping calculation (Ie 0.110kg).

the problem is that as a customer buys 100g of a product its simply an attribute of it so the site removes 1 item from stock just the same as if they bought 200g or 5kg, just one stock item is removed per purchase of it regardless of the attribute selected.

We want to use an adaptation of the weight add-on we installed that provided the new shipping weight data entry box on each attribute, the DB entry to store it and most importantly the modification of the file that says how to calculate the weight of a parcel from before adding the products weights to now adding the attributes weights up.

We believe putting in the data entry box into the attributes should be reasonably straight forward, as should the DB entry but if anyone has any offers of pointers please feel free to make them.

FINDING and then altering the file that actually deducts stock and knowing how to tell it to change its standard -1 per product sold setting to now deduct the numerical value that we have set in the attribute and stored in the DB is the bit were stumped on and would really appreciate assistance with.

If anyone wishes to ask anything than please do, or alternatively if anyone knows of any add-ons that do this already please point them out!

If all that you can do is say try this or look here we will try our best to understand and do it but we are struggling with this part so as much description of your help will be great.

Many thanks in advance
