I am having trouble figuring out the right keywords to search for this, but what would I need to research if I want a user to send an email to a specific address (i.e. [email protected]) and to have it create a new MySQL database entry, sort of like a help desk would generate?

Sorry, I should have elaborated.  With a web-based form I could easily add the entry then send the e-mail.  But I am wanting users to use a mail client such as Outlook to send the e-mail.

I can have [email protected] autorespond to another e-mail address, of course, but I don't know what makes it autorespond to a PHP/MySQL server.

Autoresponders don't just do responses (well, some do but not all).  If you're using unix, procmail can send the email to an external program which can do whatever you want, including storing data into mysql.

This thread is more than a year old. Please don't revive it unless you have something important to add.
