upload image or pdf help

I am looking to upload an image or pdf file to my server an with this upload script below. It works well and uploads the images and the pdf file but for some reason i can open the image and view it but not the pdf file can someone please let me know why  this is happening and show me what changes i need to make  to get the script to work as i'm very new to PHP . thanks

It looks like you are only trying to upload an image file.  DO you get an error message when you try and open the PDF?

No error message : the file does load to the folder but i just can't view pdf file
