Is PHP the best option for changing languages on a page?

I am looking to add Spanish to a website and would like the users to be able to click a button to switch between english and Spanish.  Is this something that php would be good for or should I look into another language?  Would there be a benefit to doing this on the client side versus the server, hence the use of javascript versus php?

I would appreciate any help in this area; samples, websites, and such.  I am looking to learn, and not for someone to do all the work for me.

Thank you in advance for your help.

javascript relies on the enduser so php would be the best of 2 (since people can have javascript disabled). depending how you set it up. Will it redirect to another domain? will it instantly translate everything on your site? If that is the case you need to write a very nice php cms with language files

oh sorry, a cms is a content management system.

But I have a little feeling you are not setting up such a thing since your question implies it a bit.

Just for clarity, don't you mean something like this: http://www.yourinspirationweb.com/

It's starts in Italian, and above you can set it to english (http://www.yourinspirationweb.com/en ) with the little flags. In this case i am pretty sure they just made 2 websites. Isn't that the easiest to do, just make a a copy of your website and translate it?

I am not sure what this is for though.
