Hello, lately I've been trying some Ajax stuff and it's really awesome, if you dont over do it.

What I'm trying to do know is to add some code that warns the user through a pop-up, when he has a new private message. All of this without refreshing the entire page, of course.

The only way I know how to do this is with the pretty lame auto-refresh html iframe. Do you know how can I archive this using Ajax? There's somethin pretty similar going on on youtube, if someone makes a comment on a video, while you're watching it, the new comment appears instantly.

How is this done? And doesnt it require a lot more of server power? Does it look for new content every 10 seconds or something?

Thank you in advance =)
