.click() help

Hello,

 

 

I've been reading up on the .click() function and I can not figure out how to have it trigger a php script. I need the click to send the li id via POST or something else so the script knows which li it needs to remove from the database.

 

Here is my code so far

            $.post("sort_slideshow1.php", data);
        }
    });
    $('#colum a').click(function() {
        $(this).parent('li').fadeOut("slow", function() { $(this).remove(); });

    $("#colum").disableSelection();
});
