I'm trying to make a connection to my database with a script and i got this error.. could you tell me what i did wrong please?

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: () in /home/content/j/w/k/jwk811/html/db.php on line 9

And heres what was on line 9

$mysql_select_db($database, $connection);

simply remove the $ in front of mysql_
