PhilipK
I have a random picture generator based off MySQL. I need a variable which is set to the pic_id of the last row in the database. How should I go about this? Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/239813-get-max-id-from-sql-database/ Share on other sites
rbrown
It depends on what you want to do with it. If you are using it for a max count to rotate through the pictures then you would row count the db. $result = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM tablename"); $num_rows = mysql_num_rows($result); // Display the results echo $num_rows; if you need it for an ID to index for the next picture to be added to the db $q = "select MAX(pic_id) from tbl_name"; $result = mysql_query($q); $data = mysql_fetch_array($result); // Display the results echo $data[0]; note your pic_id will need to be numeric only for the above to work.
