phpmyadmin error when editing text fields

I cannot edit any text fields in my databases. When I try the frame gives me an cannot connect error.  But I can update the fields using the sql panel and an update statement.

 

When I try to use the inline edit instead the text fields are locked against editing, where as other field types are editable.

 

I have setup an LAMP and installed phpmyadmin on an amazon ec2 server. I then config the phpmyadmin to connect to a amazon RDS box.

 

Apache/2.2.16 (Amazon)

MySQL client version: 5.1.52

PHP extension: mysqli

phpmyadmin Version information: 3.4.3.2

 

This is happening on two different EC2 boxes that each connect to one RDS box. I assume it an error in my configuration since it was working a couple of days ago until I update to the latest phpmyadmin and reloaded the servers.

 

Any suggestions what I can check/change?
