having problems connecting to MySQL

Hi,

 

I'm trying to connect to MySQL but I get this error.

Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2) in /usr/home/tjhilder/48oz.co.uk/personal/index.php on line 9

 

apparently it's cos MySQL isn't operating, how would I start it on FreeBSD 5.3?
