Need Some Help Wrapping My Head Around Some AJAX Stuff...

So I am attempting to create a Texas Hold'em game using AJAX, PHP and MySQL.  I have put together the MySQL table structure (found in the attached file) and am able to create the chat script with no problems.  My problem is that I don't know how to update the game screen for each person while the game is ongoing.  Such as when a new player sits down, how do I go about refreshing all players screens?

Does that make sense??

How else can I explain this?  I guess I'm not good at typing out what I am trying to do, so please ask me questions that I can answer...
